Essendon AFL esports, Abyss bought by Bombers, League of Legends Oceanic Pro League

ESSENDON has become the second AFL club to acquire its own esports organisation.

The Bombers announced on Thursday night they had secured the license of Abyss, a professional gaming team currently competing in the Oceanic League of Legends leagues (Pro and Challenger). It has also competed in Rocket League and Paladins.

Foxsports.com.au previously reported that Essendon was one of a number of clubs, including Carlton, Collingwood, Port Adelaide, GWS and West Coast to be interested in the growing industry.

The Adelaide Crows became the first club to invest in the growing industry when it acquired Legacy earlier in 2017.

However unlike the Crows’ purchase of Legacy, which also competes in League of Legends, Essendon plans on rebranding Abyss with a new name, brand and logo in the works. The Herald Sun reports the team is likely to be named the Bombers.
